This class will introduce participants to some of the basic science involved in wetlands and their ecological functions. There will be particular focus on how wetland systems function as an ecotone between terrestrial and aquatic systems. The course will offer conceptual theory in a classroom setting, field observations in the wetlands at the Naples Botanical Garden, and an opportunity to investigate and compare unique anatomical features of common wetland species both in the field and in a laboratory setting.
