Hydric Soils Training: Inside Scoop!

The hydric soils training event had a great turn out for all sessions. A SWFAEP board member personally attended an afternoon advanced session and we were greeted by Travis Richardson at the parking location and briefly discussed the layout of the training course. Travis is a very knowledgeable and fun individual to learn from. We visited an isolated wetland area within a pine flatwood for our first soils sampling area where we discussed transitional upland to wetland areas and the soils indicators found in this environment. Next we moved to the edge of a mangrove ecosystem and observed less common indicators such as hydrogen sulfide. Lastly, we visited an upland scrub habitat and discussed the absence or presence of indicators in that environment. The training session was very informative and rewarding. Since then, the knowledge gained from that training session has already been used in the field. Looking forward to attending more events like this one.
